The Chairman of the Forest and Wood Products R&D Corporation (FWPRDC) Board, Thorry Gunnersen AM, has been reappointed for a second three-year term. Australian Forestry Minister Senator Ian Macdonald said Mr Gunnersen, would begin his second term on 7 December 2003.
"He has extensive experience in the industry, including being CEO of Gunnersens Timbermark, a leading timber products wholesaler," Senator Macdonald said.
"Mr Gunnersen is also a former President of the National Association of Forest Industries, and Chairman of the Board of the World Forestry Centre based in Portland in the United States.
"He has also served a successful first term as FWPRDC Chair, particularly in providing the newly announced Board with excellent leadership and direction.
"As a result, the FWPRDC has improved processes in place for setting its R&D priorities, and has received significant industry support for its range of programs."
Senator Macdonald said one of Mr Gunnersen's key objectives during his second term would be to guide the new Board as it implemented the Corporation's new five-year plan.
"The plan, which encompasses the years 2003-2008, not only sets out the general direction and main strategies for the next five years, but also the longer-term directions of Australia's forest and wood products sector," Senator Macdonald said.
"That's vital if this important industry is to continue to generate income and create jobs in rural and regional communities across the country.
"I commend Mr Gunnersen for his contributions during his first term, and wish him a productive and successful second three years as FWPRDC Chair."
