The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union says a meeting today with Forestry South Australia could break a deadlock between the two parties over pay and conditions.
The union is demanding a number of concessions to improve conditions and a 7.5 per cent annual pay rise for its members.
The State Government corporation is only offering about half that amount.
Union state secretary (forestry division) Dave Kirner says negotiations have not been amicable at times, but today there are good signs that things could take a step forward.
"We've raised concerns about what we believe are unacceptable tactics by Forestry SA during the negotiation of the agreement and we've involved the Commissioner for Public Employment in that too," he said.
"Basically people have come back to us and said, 'we just want to get on with it and stop fighting' so if there's a good offer then we can move forward," he said.
