More than 30,000 hectares of forests and nearby land has been burned down in the Russian Far East in spring, the Itar-Tass news agency reported on Sunday.
The blaze swallowed 13,400 hectares of the taiga and over 8,600hectares on non-forest areas in the Amur Region, which recorded the most serious situation, Itar-Tass said, citing an Emergency Situations Ministry source.
The neighboring Jewish Autonomous Area and the Khabarovsk Territory also reported forestry fires, which engulfed an area of more than 3,000 hectares, equivalent to some 4,200 standard soccer playgrounds.
The fires were most likely caused by human negligence, Itar-Tass said. |
