Another successful tree planting activity |
2006/11/24
Following the success of the Mother's Day and the Father's Day tree planting, the 34U team have once more organised another tree planting activity, this time commemorating our beloved ones in view of All Souls Day under the 34LIFE scheme, part of the 34U Campaign.
The activity was attended by no less than 153 families on the morning of Saturday, 28 October at the Ta' Qali National Park, in an area specially dedicated to all those taking part in this event. Puttinu Cares Children's Cancer Support Group and The Compasionate Friends, two groups which support families who lost their children, also participated in the event.
Younger children made the most of the activity, helping their parents to plant their tree in the name of their beloved ones by getting down on their knees and patting the soil and also taking charge of watering. For others it was a more sombre occasion where the tree planted was a remembrance of their beloved ones who have passed away.
One person remarked that the planting of a tree was a more fitting tribute than a headstone, as it would stay alive just as his memories of his parents would.
The 34U campaign enables you to commemorate an important event, remember a loved one, present an original gift to someone, or simply adopt a tree for yourself. The tree will be identified by a wooden tag attached to it, bearing the name of the person concerned.
A photo commemorating the event will be taken and is also included in the Lm6 price of the tree.
